Our Philosophy
Memory Lane is dedicated to preserving and sharing the everyday memories of the generations that preceded us…history as recalled by those people who helped make it. As Carl Jung observed, "History is not contained in thick books, but lives in our blood."
Memory Lane was conceived by the same award-winning team that created Baby Einstein® (now part of The Walt Disney Company). Like Baby Einstein, Memory Lane is based on a simple premise – media produced with a clear vision and loving care can enrich lives.
In addition to The 1940s, Memory Lane has created a separate line of Connect and Reflect™ videos, audio CDs and memory books to support people with memory loss and their caregivers. For more information, visit www.MemoryLaneMedia.com
Our People
Jeff Mettais – President
Jeff is an accomplished entrepreneur and marketing executive with over 20 years experience growing new companies in the US and Japan.
Jeff formerly served as executive vice president of The Baby Einstein Company where he oversaw sales, marketing and distribution for the company’s line of developmental videos, music and print products. During his three years at the company annual sales increased from $1 million to $20 million through a smooth expansion into the mass market and new strategic partnerships.
Previously, Jeff lived in Japan for 12 years where he co-founded COMTEC, a specialty publishing and distribution company that was acquired by Disney Japan in 2003. jeff@memorylane.net
Bill Clark – Publisher and Director
Bill has been a successful publishing executive for more than 25 years. He was the founder of Optical Data Corporation, a multimedia educational publisher, and a co-founder of The Baby Einstein Company. Optical Data pioneered the use of laser videodisc and CD-ROM as educational publishing formats. Electronic Learning Magazine named Bill one of its 10 "Educators of the Decade" for this ground-breaking work. Ernst & Young also named Bill an "Entrepreneur of the Year.” Under his management, Optical Data grew from a basement start-up into a company with $30 million in annual sales.
In 1998, Clark joined his wife Julie’s start-up company, Baby Einstein, as publisher and chief financial officer. Together the Clarks created the infant developmental media market, established Baby Einstein as a world-class brand, and grew the little-company-that-could into a highly profitable enterprise.
Julie Aigner-Clark – Creative Consultant
Julie lends her boundless creativity and keen sense for crafting products that connect with special audiences to the product development process. Julie founded The Baby Einstein Company in 1997. Her goal was to provide fun, interactive ways to expose her own babies to the arts and humanities. Five years, 10 videos and 30 children’s books later, Julie sold Baby Einstein to The Walt Disney Company.
Prior to the sale to Disney, Julie and the story of Baby Einstein were covered extensively by the national media, including appearances by Julie on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Entertainment Tonight, Live! With Regis and Kelly, The View and The John Walsh Show, and feature articles in USA Today, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Time Magazine, People Magazine, Redbook, Elle, Entrepreneur, Parenting Magazine, Child Magazine, Baby Talk and Working Mother.
Along with her interest in Memory Lane, Julie has started a new company called The Safe Side. This collaboration with John Walsh, host of America’s Most Wanted, will create a series of home and school products that teach young children how to stay safer in a variety of situations.
